Last-Minute Movers in the Treasure Valley
Call 208-713-4216A last-minute move is not a different job. It is the same job with less time to fix whatever was not ready — which is why the honest answer is sometimes no.
We take same-day and next-day work when a crew is free. Call by 8am, and call rather than use the form: the answer depends on what is already on the board for that morning, and that is a two-minute conversation, not an email. We answer from 7. The later in the morning you ring, the less of the day is left to give you.
There is no rush surcharge for any of it. A same-day local move is billed exactly like one booked a month out — $100–$150 per hour for a crew of two. What actually makes a rushed move expensive is not the urgency. It is that an unpacked house takes the hours it takes whether we come today or in three weeks, and short notice usually means nobody has packed.
Before you call, know
- Where you are going and roughly how much there is
- Whether either end has stairs or an elevator
- How close the truck can get to the door
- What is packed and what is not
- Anything unusually heavy — a safe, a piano, a gun cabinet
What makes it take longer
None of these stop the move. They just turn a four-hour day into a six-hour one, and on an hourly job that is the whole difference in the bill.
- Packed halfway. Worse than not packed at all — the crew stops to work out what is ready to go.
- Dressers, filing cabinets and bookcases still full. None of it can be lifted loaded.
- Nothing disconnected: washer still plumbed in, TV still on its wall bracket, freezer not defrosted.
- No decision yet on what is not going, so the crew waits while you sort.
- Nowhere near the door to put the truck, which turns every trip into a long carry.
- Nobody at the new place to say which room, so everything lands in the garage and gets carried twice.
- Snow or ice on the walkway. An unsalted path is slow and it is how people get hurt.
- Stairs or a long approach that did not come up when you booked.
- A safe, a piano or a wall unit nobody mentioned — that changes crew size, not just hours.
- Power still off at the new place, which matters early and late in the year.
- Pets and small children loose in the middle of it.
What makes today impossible
These are different. They are not slow — they cannot be done at short notice at all, because someone other than us has to sign something first.
- A certificate of insurance naming the building. Easy with a week, impossible at 8am.
- An elevator that has to be reserved and padded. Most buildings book those days ahead.
- HOA or gated-community approval that somebody has to sign.
- A loading zone that needs a permit, or that only opens at certain hours.
- Keys not released at the other end because the closing has not funded.
If one of these applies to you, we would rather say so on the phone than send a crew to a lobby that will turn them away. Ask your building first, then call us.
Questions we get about last-minute moves
Can you move me today?
Often, yes. Call by 8am and we will tell you within the call whether a crew is free — we answer the phone from 7. After about 8 the honest answer is usually tomorrow instead, because the day is already committed.
Does a last-minute move cost more?
There is no rush surcharge. Local work is $100–$150 per hour for a crew of two whether you booked this morning or last month. What raises the bill on a rushed move is the packing that did not happen, not the short notice.
What would stop you taking a same-day job?
Anything the building needs in advance. A certificate of insurance, a reserved elevator, HOA approval, a loading-zone permit. Those take days, not hours. If yours needs one, the earliest real date is after it clears.
How do I keep a rushed move from taking longer?
Empty the dressers, take the TV off the wall, disconnect the washer, and decide what is not going before we arrive. In an apartment, book the elevator and clear somewhere near the door for the truck.
